Occupational therapy in Central Highlands, Queensland
Emerald sits at the centre of the Central Highlands, several hours inland from Rockhampton. Allied health capacity here comes and goes with the mining cycle, and families often tell us they have been waiting months for an occupational therapist — or driving to the coast for a single appointment.
Telehealth changes that maths. Interviews, functional history, goal setting, report writing, equipment trials with a support person on camera and plan-review preparation can all be done from home, on the property, or from a local service's meeting room.
Where an assessment genuinely needs to be in the room — complex home modifications, wheelchair scripting, pressure care — we plan that into a regional visit and complete everything else online so nothing waits on travel.
Central Highlands residents often travel to Rockhampton or Mackay for allied health. That is a full day away from work, school or family for one hour of assessment.

How it works
From referral to report
Send the referral
Participants, families, support coordinators, plan managers and GPs can all refer online, by phone or by email. Tell us you are in Emerald so we can plan the right mix of online and in-person support.
We make contact
We call to confirm goals, funding, urgency and what has already been tried, and answer any questions about how Telehealth actually works.
Start online, usually within 7 business days
After a referral is accepted, first appointments are usually available within 7 business days — no waiting for the next visiting clinic.
Add a face-to-face visit only where it helps
If part of the assessment truly needs to happen in person, we confirm the next visit to the region and complete everything else online in the meantime.
