Hi, I'm Derek
Serious about therapy, seriously fun to work with.
My approach is simple: I get to know you, your world, and the people in your corner — then every decision we make is built around the full picture.
I'm an AHPRA-registered occupational therapist, clinical and professional supervisor, mentor, and founder of Today & Tomorrow Allied Health Services. Across six years in OT I've worked in NDIS paediatrics and group-based therapy, and built deep experience in complex assistive technology scripting and home modifications.
Before OT, I spent years managing aquatic and recreational facilities and leading training and development teams — a background that shapes how I run sessions today: structured, safe, and always a little bit playful.
I also support occupational therapists and allied health practitioners through clinical supervision, professional supervision and mentoring. It is a chance to pause, think clearly and build confidence with a trusted colleague beside you — whether the focus is a complex case, professional identity or the next stage of your career.
Why OT? Honestly, it started when I was a kid. I saw an OT for handwriting support, and I still remember how it felt to have someone in my corner who made hard work feel like a game. That's the experience I try to give every client — a mix of skill-building, dignity and genuine fun.
In a session I bring an open mind and a loose plan. I have my clinical intentions, but if something more pressing walks through the door — a big feeling, a new goal, a family concern — I'll rearrange the whole hour without blinking. That flexibility is where the real progress happens.

Who I work with
Why these colours
Inspired by the places and communities we serve.
The colours of Today & Tomorrow reflect the Australian landscapes that connect our work. Coastal blues and blue-greens speak to our Gold Coast beginnings — calm, open and full of possibility.
Red dirt and outback orange recognise the rural and regional communities we travel to support. They bring warmth, energy and a sense of the long roads that connect people from all corners of Australia.
Together, the palette represents one practice across many places: grounded, approachable and ready to meet people where they are — in person, through regional outreach or by Telehealth.

Tantrix
I love the versatility of it — one little tile-based puzzle game that can flex into fine motor work, problem solving, turn-taking, frustration tolerance and pure fun. Clients light up every time it comes out.
What we stand for
Our values
Collaboration
Decisions get made with you, your family and the people already in your corner — not around them.
Practical problem-solving
Evidence-informed thinking applied to real-world barriers, from wheelchair scripting to sensory play.
Respect
Sessions run at your pace, with plain language, honest answers and no judgement.
Rural & regional commitment
Country communities deserve timely, quality care too. We travel to rural areas with long waitlists and stay connected by Telehealth in between.
Funding & payment
Funding accepted
We support participants and clients across a range of funding pathways — if you're unsure how to get started, just reach out.

Kind words
What clients and referrers had to say
The referral form was straightforward and asked for the information that actually mattered. I received confirmation quickly, and Derek contacted the participant directly so I wasn't stuck going back and forth organising intake.

I sent the referral late on a Tuesday and knew what would happen next by Thursday. The intake process was clear, the expected hours were explained before anything started, and the family felt included from the first call.

We'd waited nearly a year for a wheelchair review before Derek picked it up. He came out twice, trialled two different cushions and sorted the tilt so my son could sit through a full school day without pain. The supplier had everything they needed first time because the report was that clear.

Finn used to hide under the table when a therapist arrived. Now he's at the front door with his shoes on. They started with dinosaurs and somehow ended up doing handwriting — six months on he'll write his own name on a birthday card without being asked.

I've worked with a lot of OTs and Derek is the one I chase least. Emails come back the same day, he tells me straight away if something won't be funded, and I've never had to send one of his reports back for more evidence.

We're two and a half hours from the nearest OT and had been told the wait was eighteen months. Derek came through on his regional trip, did the whole assessment out here on the farm, and we've kept going over video since. Nobody else would drive this far.

Living out of town means most services just say no. Derek worked around our shearing season, sorted the bathroom rails and a shower chair, and rang the local builder himself so nothing got lost. My husband can shower safely again.

Our daughter is non-speaking and a lot of people talk over her. Derek talked to her. He sat on the floor, followed what she was interested in, and built the goals out of that. The whole plan finally sounds like her.

I came into supervision with him feeling completely out of my depth on a complex seating case. He didn't just give me the answer — he walked me through his reasoning so I could get there myself next time. My reports are noticeably better for it.
